The year was 2018. Somewhere in this picture above is me. I was in a room full of awesomeness and when I arrived for this event, I had completely lost my voice. And I wanted to talk to so many people!
But I was also hurting from the news of a childhood friend who had suffered a major heart attack the day I arrived to this event. By the time this picture was taken, he had passed away.
I still keep in touch with some of these folks but nowhere near the level of closeness that we once had. Seeing pictures from this period of my life seems like a lifetime ago.
I still think about the friend that had passed away. Tom was a great friend that I wished I had kept in better contact with over time. We met up once when a work trip brought him to the Alabama area where I live. We picked right back up where we left off back in the high school days.
I’ve always heard that sometimes you have friends for a season of life and that’s that. People move on and relationships change and fade away.
I hope that the people that I call friends, especially those that are close, stick around until the day we leave this planet.
Remember my Johnny Metal post? Here’s one of my favorite pictures of Johnny Metal.

Cherish your friends. Don’t let them be just for a season.
