That’s how I start my videos for my YouTube channel, My Music Corner.
I didn’t think anyone would want to watch me talk about anything but to my surprise people tune in. I have a fantastic co-captain for a Wednesday night series where we discuss albums by a particular band. It started with W.A.S.P. We are currently doing Judas Priest.
But, who is Johnny Metal?
Johnny Metal is a man who had dreams but never really fulfilled them.
Johnny Metal is someone people looked up to and some still do.
Johnny Metal loves Jesus, Family, Friends, Metal and Wrestling.
I never dreamed of having a persona, a character or something like that but it evolved over time. It all came together when a guy who ran a venue I started frequenting began to talk to me as I wasn’t exactly the target audience for the venue. He would call me Johnny Metal knowing that I was into metal and my name is John.
But Johnny Metal once went by another name. Exciter.
Yeah I know. My mindset was a cross between the KISS song Exciter and the Judas Priest song of the same name.
Exciter was more like the type of wannabes you would see if you had seen Decline of the Western Civilization Part two The Metal Years. Exciter wanted to rule the world with the songs he was writing. Thank God that never came to fruition as the songs were so blatantly ripped off of other artists, or were so drenched in sex that they would have been laughed off of the earth.
I won’t even go into the thirst for sex.
In a chorus of a song I wrote called “Exciter of Your Dreams” I wrote:
It’s me, the Exciter of your dreams
It’s me, the one who hears your passionate screams
Yeah. Exciter was a sexist pig. Something I am not proud of.
While Exciter had a thirst for a good time, he would eventually realize that he wasn’t all that and a bag of chips. Life changes would lay Exciter to rest only to be resurrected as Johnny Metal.
Johnny Metal had that same thirst for a good time but this time it came along with wanting to be a light to the next generation.
I guess a question anyone who has read this far is probably asking, yeah but who is John Clauser? What will we see in this blog site? We shall see.

Funny enough for a brief period in 1994 I went by Exciter too. My tagline was “Stand back for Exciter, salvation is his task!”

I just read all of your posts in reverse order, finishing with this one, and what a great introduction. I like the focus on growth, here. In our youth, we may say/do things that aren’t the best decisions, but if you can look back and say “That wasn’t my best moment”, that shows growth and maturity. One thing I’ve been saying a lot to people lately is that if you age, and all you do is get older, then you’re pretty much wasting your life. If you age, and you mature / continue to grow as a person, realizing your past mistakes, then you’re doing it right. I’m thankful for maturity and wisdom more than ever.
